An Evening Harp Concert

Mary Kathleen Ruddy and Kathleen Wilson

On Sunday July 19th, the brothers and several guests were treated to a brief evening concert. Harpist Kathleen Wilson of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and her student Mary Kathleen Ruddy each played a solo piece before together performing Cesar Franck’s Prelude, Fugue, and Variations. It was an evening of remarkable beauty, for which we are immensely grateful.

Kathleen Wilson, a long-time friend of Mepkin, has been principal harpist to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra since 1987. She also teaches harp at Charleston Southern University and the College of Charleston.

Mary Kathleen Ruddy has played for us before, coming with the choir of St. Philip Benizi church in Moncks Corner, of which her mother Patricia is the director. Mary Kathleen and Patricia also volunteer their time in Mepkin’s gardens and library
