Lila Luce visits Mepkin

Lila Luce arrived to visit on Monday, October 5th. The community is always pleased to welcome one of the members of the family from whom we received our property for the foundation of the monastery in 1949. Lila and her brother, Christopher Luce, have continued their family’s wonderful generosity to our Mepkin community by their concern for and support of our library. Father Christian (now 95 and who was Mepkin’s second abbot) and Lila share a mutual interest in Africa. As you know, after he retired as second abbot, Father Christian was chaplain to our Trappistine sisters in Uganda for several years. While he was in Uganda, Lila was working in Kenya and was able to make the journey twice from Kenya to visit Father Christian in Uganda. During her visit this year they were able to spend some time sharing remembrances of their respective work in Africa and enjoyed renewing their friendship.
