Volunteer/Employee Appreciation Picnic
The Third Annual Volunteer and Employee Appreciation Picnic was held last Saturday, July 25th. This celebration is an expression of our appreciation to the many people whose help is so vital to our life at the abbey. As a small token of our gratitude for their hours and years of dedication and hard work, the abbot presents each of our volunteers and employees with a gift bag containing a special Mepkin t-shirt and a pin denoting their hours or years of service.
Guests of Honor

Charles Meyers has been a dedicated employee at Mepkin for 10 years. Initially hired by Father Stan to deliver eggs, Charles soon became the Supervisor of the egg-grading house, where he consistently kept things running smoothly until it closed a few months ago. He is now learning with us the secrets of mushroom production.
Mike Yaeger, who has volunteered over 1000 hours, is one of the more common sights at Mepkin. Mike is responsible for much of the lawn care around our store and within the monastic enclosure. He also takes care of the Charleston 9 memorial and native plant labyrinth. Mike’s wife, Julie, also volunteers at Mepkin as a docent.
We are very grateful to Charles and Mike for their loving service to our community.
