Mepkin Abbey’s Columbarium Committee met, July 14, 2011, and finalized its decision to begin construction. Within two weeks of completed “construction drawings” the committee will order the niches. Niches typically take from 18 to 20 weeks to construct. Site preparation will be determined by early August. This could well mean that the beginnings of Phase I, a twenty foot wall for 12 inch niches and an eight foot wall for 8 inch urns, of the Columbarium at Mepkin Abbey will be completed by late January. Niche sales have been going extremely well and thus has given Mepkin the confidence to begin construction.
