Three men spend time at Mepkin as observers.
Mepkin has had a wonderful experience recently having had three men who visited the monastery previously believing that God was calling them to join the monastic life. Now they have advanced in their discernment and have asked to live with us for an extended time to explore in a more direct way if God is inviting them to enter Mepkin. Coming from North Carolina, New York City and Maine, each has been in conversation with his spiritual director and received encouragement to proceed to the next level of discernment. One has been working in his community at a prison. One has been in business in real estate. And the other has been employed in finance. Two were able to join us for Holy Week. All have participated fully in the life, joining us for all the times of community prayer, for work, for our meals, to participate in the chapters given by the abbot, attending the communal lectio divina on Saturday afternoon reviewing the readings for Mass on Sunday. They lived within the monastic community in such a way that they may understand the monks’ response to the call of God. Please pray for them and for vocations to Mepkin.
Three new men have asked to make first vocation visits.
In the past two months three new men have contacted us asking to come for a first vocation visit in the summer months. One is from Long Island in New York, one is from Philadelphia and the third resides in the Chicago area. Two have recently finished college studies and have felt the tug to the monastery over several years. The third has been considering religious life for a number of years and now in his early 30s, he realizes while the draw had been to a community in apostolic service, he has more recently come to believe God is inviting him to contemplative life. Please pray that their visits will help them more clearly appreciate the invitation God is offering them.
