Mepkin Abbey Bids Farewell to Vivian Whorley
Over fifty garden volunteers and staff gathered with many of the monks for a potluck luncheon on May 25, 2011 to say good –bye to Vivian. The number of volunteers who came was a testimony, in itself, of the real esteem they have for Vivian and their genuine appreciation for all that they learnt about plants while Vivian served as Mepkin’s horticulturalist for more than ten years leaving her touch on our landscape for years to come.

Several weeks ago we monks had the opportunity to view an extraordinary French film “Of Gods and Men.” It was the true story of a small monastery of Trappist monks in a mountain village of Algeria in the 1990s. Watching the film gave new meaning to living Trappist life in the world today.

Father Joe attended the annual Junior Conference on May 2 to 14, 2011. This year it was held at Holy Spirit Abbey in Conyers Georgia. Junior professed monks and nuns from Trappists houses in the United States Region attended.
