Bishop Robert Kurtz

Bishop Robert Kurtz, Bishop Emeritus of Bermuda, spent a year in Mepkin after his retirement and during that time he endeared himself to all.  Since leaving Mepkin last March, Bishop Robert has been living in Chicago and acting as Novice Director for his community, the Resurrectionists.  Bishop Kurtz recently returned to Mepkin for a visit and the Abbot invited him to give the homily on Sunday, January 14, 2018.  You can read the homily here.

New, easy to use prayer and hymn books come to Mepkin – Summer 2017

“O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.” Psalm 96:1 has a special meaning in light of the project that has been three years in the making at Mepkin. Musician Eli Homza and Abbot Stan Gumula have collaborated to bring new prayers in an accessible format in the new books for use in the Mepkin Abbey church, designed to make prayer and worship more accessible for guests, the community, and all who enter the church to pray.

People may not realize just how many hands it takes to keep Mepkin’s grounds so beautiful and keep everything running smoothly. From the first flowers of spring to each wreath at the Crèche Festival in the fall, Mepkin Abbey is blessed with volunteers and staff that love this peaceful place. These folks filled the refectory with smiles and stories this summer at the annual volunteer and staff picnic.
