We have failed to put on our web site a most important event in the history of Mepkin. While the community was celebrating Vigils on the Second Sunday of Advent, December 5, 2010, our Father Leonard Cunningham passed through death to be with the Lord. He had been failing over the previous months, but a noticeable change occurred near the beginning of November. His family was notified and were kept informed of his condition. On Friday the 3rd his youngest sister, Jean Marie, arrived from California. She was able to spend quality time with him on Saturday. Len seemed to have waited for that moment and then went to the Lord around 3:40 AM on Sunday morning.

Mepkin welcomes Father Jonas as a new postulant

At first Vespers for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th, Father Jonas Palmares entered Mepkin as a postulant. Having visited Mepkin several times and having lived with us for two long periods as an observer, Father Jonas discerned with us that indeed the Lord was inviting him to join as a Trappist monk of Mepkin Abbey.
