Advent at Mepkin
The four-week period leading up to Christmas we call Advent. It began on Sunday November 29th, and we celebrated in the monastery with solemn vigils. You can read Father Joe’s vigil homily here. The church is beautifully decorated with our Advent wreath and the four Advent candles, one of which is already lighted. The altar cloth and vestments are a beautiful shade of purple. You will also notice Father Guerric’s handiwork in the church decorations of two trees with no leaves to remind us of the starkness of the season, the invitation to make a new beginning, and to joyfully anticipate Christ’s coming at Christmas.
