The Tesoriere Collection: A Gift Borne of Friendship
Ugo Tesoriere, a physician from Brooklyn, NY, followed a dream to become a painter, moving to Italy to study art and paint. He married Valeria Giannini and spent the rest of his life painting portraits and landscapes.
Meeting many people interested in art, Ugo become friends with two monks studying in Rome: Fr. Francis Kline, a Trappist monk, and Fr. Jeremy Driscoll, a Benedictine monk. Over the years they became close friends.
In 2000, Ugo died and left his whole art collection to Fr. Francis Kline who was then the Abbot of Mepkin Abbey. Fr. Francis was thrilled with the gift and shipped the collection to Mepkin where it was catalogued and stored.
In 2019, Mepkin Abbey entered into a partnership with Fr. Jeremy Driscoll, now the Abbot of Mt. Angel Abbey in Oregon. As a dear friend of Ugo’s, Fr. Jeremy arranged to have the framed part of the collection moved to Mt. Angel.
Today, Mepkin Abbey and Mt. Angel have these paintings available for sale to enable other art lovers to enjoy Ugo’s work.
