Brother Juan and Brother Martin receive the novice habit for the Solemnity of the Assumption
On the eve of the Solemnity if the Assumption during chapter and before Compline, Abbot Stan clothed Brother Juan and Brother Martin in the novice habit. Having listened to a reading of a portion of the Prologue and chapter 72 of the Rule of Saint Benedict, the Abbot instructed our brothers in the way of life to which they are giving themselves, exhorting them to be men of prayer, study, regard for their brothers and resolved to constant mindfulness of God.
Following the instruction these two postulants responded to the formula of three questions and were individually invited to step forward, remove their postulant shirt and be vested by the abbot in the white robe, white scapular, white cloth belt and cloak worn by a novice of our Order. Upon being clothed, the Abbot offered each the sign of peace and invited those preset to greet each of our new novices with the sign of peace.
Present for the ceremony along with the community was Brother Martin’s daughter, Daniela, who resides in Ecuador, Bishop Victor Galeone (the retired bishop of Saint Augustine, Fla.) a visiting Benedictine monk and our monastic guest.
Please remember our two new novices, our two other postulants and those who are discerning a call to Mepkin in your prayers.
