Christmas 2021 Reflection
On the threshold of Christmas, the faith of the Advent figures speaks to us of what happens when we cooperate with God. Answering our call, our vocation, is daring to believe as did John the Baptist, Elizabeth and Zechariah, Joseph and Mary. Blessed Guerric of Igny in his Advent sermons says that all of us are called to be God bearers as we encounter the Holy Spirit in receiving scripture. Who are the ones who said yes in the face of uncertainty becoming the means by which God brings his work of salvation forward? Are we willing to say yes in the face of uncertainty and experience the ways our God uses the familiar and ordinary to share his love and grace? Can we understand that without our fully grasping what God is accomplishing, the giving of our yes is taking us into the fulfillment of a work that God is bringing about not by our design but by his?
