Classes on St. Mark’s gospel given by Fr. Michael Simone
Fr. Michael Simone
The Mepkin community was very fortunate to welcome Fr. Michael Simone, SJ who returned to give a series of five presentations on the gospel of St. Mark.
Helping us to understand who Mark is as an evangelist and what is distinct to his presentation of the life words and deeds of Jesus, the classes were both overview material and careful looking at specific texts. These texts helped us to appreciate Mark’s attention to detail, his emphasis on change of heart, his clarity on the messianic secret and his belief in the resurrection.
Having taught scripture at Boston College, Fr. Simone is now on the staff of Old St. Patrick’s parish in Chicago. We pray in gratitude for this experience that so helps us to prayerfully receive the gift of God’s Word and enriches our contemplative life so wonderfully.
