Community Additions to the Creche Festival
Community artists and crafters have added a flourish to the 15th annual Mepkin Abbey Crèche Festival this year. Pictured are three of the favorite outdoor angels made from all natural materials by some very talented local residents. The first is crafted by Liz Wilson with Pampas Grass and Sapphire Cypress with Nandina Berry accents. The second features bleached cornhusks, dried Hydrangeas and Pleasant feathers, and was created by St. Stephens Garden Club. In the third you will find shelled corn, oak twigs, magnolia seed pods and a skirt made out of Pampas Grass blooms and white feathers, featuring many more items hand picked from around Berkeley County. Inside we have angels painted by professional artists, grade schoolers and senior citizens. We regret we are unable to take any more visitors for this year’s festival. In a few days we will be posting the five favorites from this year’s festival, and later you will be able to look forward to a slide show of all of this year’s entries with some more of the exquisite angels you see here. The monks are extremely grateful to all the talented and generous people who have made this year’s festival so inspiring and different.
