Mepkin bids farewell to “Mr. Charles” and recognizes volunteers
Presentation to Volunteers and Farewell to Mr. Charles
A very enjoyable part of the Mepkin calendar is our annual picnic to say thanks to our wonderful volunteers. Sadly, this even has been yet another victim of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, at midday in the breezeway on Wednesday, August 12th, Father Joe presented certificates to Linda Perkis, John Delmonte, and Jill and Greg Ewell. All four of these volunteers had achieved a thousand hours, and so their certificates were a small sign of the Community’s appreciation for their tireless efforts. Also in attendance was Denis Nelson, the new head of the garden volunteers.
A special presentation was made to Charles Meyers. Mr. Charles, as he is affectionately known to his colleagues, has now retired after twenty-one years of faithful service to the monastery. Charles worked in the mushroom house, but so much more. He was always available to make deliveries to the kitchen, empty trash, and do all kinds of chores around the monastery. We will miss you, Mr. Charles, and we wish you a very happy and enjoyable retirement.
