Mepkin Celebrates Holy Week
Holy Week and Easter at Mepkin
The celebrations of the sacred Triduum were very meaningful in Mepkin Abbey this Holy Week. On Holy Thursday, at lunchtime, Father Joe, in imitation of Jesus Christ at the Last Supper, washed the feet of all of the monks and the guests who were present. This was followed by a beautiful meal. Later in the afternoon, Father Columba celebrated the mass of the Lord’s Supper. In his homily, he referred to Jesus’ example and bending down to wash the disciples’ feet, so that we in turn will do the same for others (See Father Columba’s homily here.).
On Good Friday at three o’clock, Father Joe led the celebration of the Lord’s Passion. After the reading of the Passion, Father Joe preached and spoke on the journey of Holy Thursday to Good Friday as a journey of love at which only the women and the mother of Jesus remained faithful (See Father Joe’s homily here.).
On Holy Saturday night after the lighting of the Paschal fire and the candles of the congregation, the Holy Word of God was read, followed by Father Joe’s homily about how we all need Easter. He reminded us that the story of God with us is the truth and that we are all called to choose life (For Father Joe’s homily here.).
On Easter Sunday morning at the mass celebrated by Father Columba, Father Guerric preached on the resurrection as a process, one in which we are all engaged (See Father Guerric’s homily here.).
A blessed Easter to you all.
