October Refectory Book
The October refectory book is Mobituaries by Mo Rocca. Rocca is a popular television correspondent and humorist. In this book, he has rigorously researched and celebrates the lives of people whom he said have lived lives worth living but whose stories have not been told. In Mobituaries, he introduces us to reading about the lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who have changed the world. The book, which was a New York Times bestseller, chronicles the stories that are often not as well-known. The first one we heard was about the patriot Thomas Paine, about whom little has been written, according to Rocca. He writes “mobituaries” for people as well as dead sports teams, dead countries, the dearly departed station wagon, dragons, and trees. He is a superb researcher and storyteller, and we look forward to enjoying this entertaining book over the next few weeks.
