The third week of the Monastic Institute followed the same program as the previous two weeks, but with a different speaker. Mother Rebekka Willekes gave a daily talk and covered such topics as desire, the founders of the Cistercian order and Asceticism, the Psalms, Lectio Divina, the Jesus Prayer, and prayer from the heart. Each night, there was a question and answer session with the participants. On Saturday, July 21, Isaac, Joachim, Michelle, and John shared at the Chapter meeting their experiences of the week gone by and of the Institute to date.
Vocation Thought for the Day
“There are only eleven men’s Trappist monasteries in the United States simply because God isn’t calling everyone to be a Trappist. But is God calling you?”
Mepkin Abbey Mushrooms
Oyster mushrooms have long been cultivated in Asia for their medical benefits as well as excellent taste, and are a rich source of B-Vitamins. Dried mushrooms have a concentrated and powerful flavor, so you need less of them per recipe.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the arrival of our fresh and dried shiitake and oyster mushrooms in select grocery stores in the Low Country, including Whole Foods. Our dried and powdered mushrooms are available for sale in the Abbey Store.
