A Meditation Garden
This new project focusing on reconciliation is underway in the Gardens here at Mepkin Abbey. A sculpture will be situated where those who were enslaved lie in unmarked graves, buried along with some Native Americans.
The sculpture is entitled “Thy Father’s Hand,” and it features the crucified Christ in the Hand of God. There will be a path with interesting facts and findings for your reflection. This “Meditation Garden of Truth and Reconciliation” will incorporate the Henry Laurens family graveyard so that the complete history of the enslaved at Mepkin can be part of the permanent installation. A unique experience indeed is underway!
Shown is a picture of the Sculpture that was made into a life size work of art.
