Mepkin Abbey Garden Volunteer Newsletter January 2014
December at the Abbey was a month of the joyful anticipation and celebration of the coming of our Lord. The Creche Festival was again a great success, and we thank all of you for your many extra hours assuring the gardens be in top shape. We received many nice compliments on the grounds. As is our custom, our crews did not work during the week of Christmas or the week of New Year’s, but despite all, several of our Volunteers came and kept things in order.
As usual for this time of year, our time was mostly taken up with removal of debris due to the rain and windstorms. We try not to start any projects that cannot be completed on the day we are here, as we have visitors in and out all throughout the holidays.
I returned to Tennessee the middle of December and thus we will not have an update on the various garden areas this month.
One of the exciting happenings was the “Simple Vows”, taken by Brother Anthony Maria early in December. Last month, we mentioned that Father Jonas had taken his “Simple Vows” the first week of December.
As usual, Father Guerric outdid himself with the decorations for Christmas. Here are a few photographs of the different areas.
My thanks to Fran Taggart who took all these wonderful photos for the Newsletter and to ever-faithful Langhorne for editing. I hope each one of you enjoyed the blessings of Christmas and look forward with much joy to peace and love in the New Year. Dottie
