On Saturday August 16th, Sister Maria of Holy Angels Abbey in Virginia and Father Isaac of Genesee Abbey in New York began a new learning experience for the men and women in formation in the monasteries of our Order in the United States. Participating by Zoom, all those in our houses who are postulants, novices and in temporary vows were invited to discuss a selected passage from the writings of Saint Aelred of Rievaulx on God’s love and mercy. The passage had been provided in advance for each participant to read and reflect on. This begins a monthly session conducted in the manner of distance learning offered by many colleges and universities. Sister Maria and Father Isaac serve on the Formation Committee of the houses of our Order in the US region. This session began with each participant introducing themselves and saying little about their monastery, affording those who will carry our charism and tradition into the future to know each other and benefit form the collective wisdom they can share.
